Astra Lumina Volunteer Program

Are you interested in becoming one of our ASTRA LUMINA Volunteer stars?

Why?

Volunteering can bring you so many benefits; increasing your skills, experience and confidence, increasing physical health and wellbeing, making new friends and the opportunity to give back. And when you volunteer in any program at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary – a not for profit charity - your contribution helps our mission to support Conservation: for animals and the natural environment.  Thank you in advance.

Who?

If you are a person with a genuine welcoming personality, who loves bringing joy to others, you will be perfect for this volunteering role. You will be a person who is happy to work in a flexible manner, and swap between various tasks and locations throughout each shift.

You will need to:

  • Be aged over 18 years
  • Be able to work a 3-4 hour shift one evening per week (Weds to Saturday), expected to cover the core hours from 5.15 pm - 9.00 pm (maybe subject to change, depending on the season).
  • Have a level of fitness to stand and walk throughout your shift
  • Ideally, you can offer a  6-month commitment to the program
  • Be willing to work outdoors in all-weather / seasons
  • You will be required to speak conversational-level English, and we do welcome volunteers who can also speak languages other than English.

Astra Globe

What?

Astra Lumina is the newest night time attraction on the Gold Coast that will delight guests of all ages. The Astra-Lumina experience is an international attraction, famous in the northern hemisphere, but opening for the first time in Australia right here in Queensland. It is a spectacular night time story trail that follows a journey through a multitude of fun and awe-inspiring interactive light and star field zones set along a easy-access forest trail.

Volunteer tasks will include:

  • Directing, welcoming and exiting guests to/from the Astra Lumina attraction, within the Sanctuary.
  • Be stationed at various Astra Lumina zones throughout your shift, providing brief information to enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Assisting staff to provide a safe and enjoyable visitor journey.
  • Enjoying the benefits of being a volunteer. As a gesture of our appreciation, we provide you with a NTAQ TEAM member card (after 3 months volunteering), which provides you with free entry and discounted offers at the Sanctuary and other Qld National Trust properties for you and your family/ friends.

When?

Astra Lumina will open to the public from 5th March 2025.  We are establishing a team of fun and friendly volunteers to assist as trail hosts.

NOTE: Existing CWS Volunteers can apply by simply emailing your CWS Volunteer Manager to express your interest. You do not have to re-register online.

Where?

Astra Lumina is located in and amongst the spectacular natural forest glades and rainforest of the secluded areas of the heritage listed Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, in separate zones away from our animal exhibits and attractions. Astra Lumina is the newest addition to the amazing variety of world-class tourism experiences, right here on Queensland's fabulous Gold Coast!

How?

To apply, please submit your interest via filling in our online Application.  You will be contacted by our friendly Volunteer Operations Manager. She will call to provide more information, then invite you to attend an interview.  If you are successful, you will pay the registration fee ($35 new volunteers/ $20 existing CWS volunteers), receive your uniform (shirt and hat), participate in on-the-job training, and then be all set to be one of our Astra Lumina Volunteer Stars!
